Kyiv, UKRAINE — June 14, 2022 — MacPaw releases a Google Chrome extension of SpyBuster with an interactive map showing all web connections with worldwide servers and notifying on potentially unwanted ones.

In March 2022, following the Russian invasion of Ukraine, MacPaw engineers from the Technology R&D team developed the SpyBuster app to help users protect personal data from Russian legislation directives that may not meet their security standards — namely the [Yarovaya Law](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yarovaya_law#:~:text=The Yarovaya law (in Russian, terror and public safety measures.) allows FSB and other Russian law enforcement agencies nearly unlimited access to any user data on Russian servers without a court order.

SpyBuster is a free on-device anti-spyware macOS app that helps users effortlessly secure their data by weeding out apps and web connections reporting to servers located in Russia and Belarus or somehow related to Russia.

From now on, SpyBuster will ensure users’ security and privacy from cyber threats that may come from Russia and Belarus beyond Macs. SpyBuster Google Chrome extension will help users on all platforms supporting the browser freely monitor web connections and data transferring processes to increase personal data protection from falling into the wrong hands.

SpyBuster for macOS indicates whether applications on Mac are connecting to unwanted servers, so it only informs about the fact that a browser is making such connections. Meanwhile, the SpyBuster extension shows precisely where user data goes when using Google Chrome and can determine which particular site is making unwanted connections. And the interactive map inside the extension allows users to see where personal data is transmitted in real-time for each tab.

Whereas the SpyBuster Mac application allows for blocking unwanted connections or deleting apps instantly, the extension for Google Chrome only informs about such connections. Users can access instructions on blocking specific sites in Google Chrome in the "More Info" menu of the SpyBuster extension. Thus, similarly to the macOS app, the user independently decides whether they want to trust a server with their data or not.

According to the Microsoft Digital Defense Report 2021, 58% of all cyberattacks come from Russia. The top three countries targeted by most Russian cyberattacks are the United States, Ukraine, and the United Kingdom. That is why SpyBuster is an up-to-date preventive application for users from all over the world.

Part of SpyBuster's functionality was integrated into CleanMyMac inside the new category of apps in the Uninstaller module — Suspicious. In the Suspicious category, users can find apps developed or hosted in Russia and Belarus as they may threaten data safety on their Macs.
